All of the above gift offers are packaged in a reusable gift box wrapped with Lokta paper from Nepal - reflecting the 500 year-old craft of Nepali papermaking. The Lokta paper is handcrafted by men and women in Malika and Dolakha — two forest regions high in the Himalayas. The company state that their "sourcing of Lokta paper helps support this local industry which keeps families together and reverses local deforestation in the region." In 2009, Himalayan Bio Trade, an organisation owned by a consortium of community-based groups, achieved Wildlife Friendly certification for their Lokta production, which also helps to protect the dwindling population of snow leopards and other endangered animals in the region.

"When you give an Aveda Christmas gift embellished with Nepali Lokta paper, you support a centuries old indigenous craft, and help break the cycle of poverty for the next generation,” said Dominique Conseil, president of Aveda. “This example of successful micro-enterprise reflects the Aveda mission as it cares for both the community and the planet.”
